As a youngster Karl attended A.A. Wright elementary School where he played basketball, volleyball and soccer. Moving on to WDSS he played basketball, soccer and ran cross country. In 1986 he was vice president of the BAA and served as manager of the Sr. boys volleyball ingrade 13. He also refereed elementary and separate school senior boys and girls basketball. A player as well as a referee in the Wallaceburg Soccer Association, he played for the U18 Whitecaps and the Strikers who competed in the London and District Soccer league.
After graduating from WDSS it was on to the Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology where he played on the basketball team and won the Bronze Medal at the Division 2 Championships in 1987/88. 1989 would see Karl transfer to Seneca College where he was the statistician for both the mens and womens teams. In 1994 he was the statistician for the bronze medal game at the FIB A World Championships. In 1995 he began his current position as statistician for the Toronto Raptors of the NBA. Sitting at the scorers table right in front of all the action is a great experience, especially in 2019 as the Raptors fought their way to winning their 1st NBA Championship. The Raptors recently played in Tokyo Japan and Karl was right there with them. With the team since day one he says winning the title was the most rewarding time of his career. He still partners with Brenda at London Lightning games on occasion and does stats for the newly formed Canadian Elite Basketball league where he travels to places like Guelph, Hamilton, Niagara Falls and as far away as Saskatoon and the Fraser Valley in B.C. He also finds time to run clinics on statistics all over North America.
