Kevin McGaffey
Male Athlete - Inducted 2022
Growing up in Wallaceburg in the 1960s and 70s, Kevin McGaffey had a passion for the game of lacrosse. It didn’t hurt that his dad George “Jug” McGaffey was a legendary figure with the Wallaceburg Red Devils. Kevin started out as a forward but switched over to goalie in PeeWee under coach Duke Shaw. It turned out to be a good decision as he would go on to be named MVP at that position four times in the Southern Ontario Minor Lacrosse Association as well as winning championships in 1975 and 1976. In 1977, his Juvenile team go to Brampton and defeat Midland 4-2 to win the Ontario Lacrosse Association D Championship. In 1977 and 1978, he played for the Wallaceburg Junior C Satans before heading off to play Junior B for the Point Edward Pacers in 1979. That year the Pacers won the Founders Cup as Canadian Champions. Kevin continued to play lacrosse for the love of the game and in 2004 he played for Whitby, who would go on to win the Ontario Lacrosse Association Senior Masters Championship. In 2018 and 2019, he played on a Masters’ teams that won back-to-back titles in the Toronto Lightning League. Incredibly Kevin still plays year-round in leagues in Peterborough, Oshawa, and Toronto, as well as the Ontario Masters League.
Today Kevin and his wife of thirty two years, Karen, are the proud parents of three sons Sean, Brendan and Tanner, and they reside in Courtice Ontario.
